How Applying Works on Loans Edmonton

Applying through Loans Edmonton takes about five minutes and four steps: a short form, an income check through a read-only bank connection or pay records, a match with licensed lenders that ends in a written offer, and an e-signed agreement before the money arrives by Interac e-transfer. In Alberta the payday offer is an instalment plan over at least three paydays, not a single debit.

What to have ready

You need four things before you start: a Canadian chequing account your pay lands in, your employer's name and pay schedule, a working mobile number and email, and government photo identification.

ItemWhy the lender needs it
Chequing account with employment depositsThe income check, the e-transfer destination and the account the instalments come from
Employer and pay cycleAlberta sets no fixed share of pay, so the lender sizes the loan to the deposits it sees; your paydays set the instalment dates
Mobile number and emailVerification codes, the agreement, the cancellation notice form and the e-transfer notice
Photo identificationA name match and proof that you are 18, the age of majority in Alberta

Step 1: the application form

The apply button opens the application platform we work with, where a five minute form asks for your address, employer, pay frequency, the amount you want and your banking details; none of it passes through this site. Applying is free.

Ask for an amount your deposits can carry. A lender reads about three months of deposits and offers what they support, so a first payday loan usually lands well under $1500. A $300 loan costs $42 and repays $342 in three instalments of $114. If the bill needs longer than three paydays, ask for an installment amount instead.

Step 2: income verification

Most lenders confirm income through a read-only bank connection: you sign in to online banking in a secure window, the lender sees about 90 days of deposits and debits, and the connection closes. It takes a minute, cannot move money and never shows the lender your password. Pay stubs and statements work too but take an extra business day to read.

Turnaround pay from a Refinery Row contract shows as a spike, and lenders size the offer on the ordinary deposits between spikes.

Step 3: the lender match and the offer

The platform sends your application to licensed lenders whose rules fit your income, amount and province, and a lender that wants to lend replies with an offer showing the cost in dollars, which is where the two products separate.

A payday offer shows the amount, the fee, the total and each instalment date. The fee cannot exceed $14 per $100, and under Part 12.1 of the Consumer Protection Act the plan must run 42 to 62 days with instalments on at least three paydays (two if paid monthly) that differ by no more than $10. Compare it with the cost table on the homepage and the payday loans Edmonton page.

An installment offer shows the APR, the payment, the number of payments and the total cost. The APR must sit at or under the 35% federal ceiling. Check it against the installment loans Edmonton page, and untick any optional insurance before you accept.

Step 4: e-signature and funding

You sign the agreement on your phone, and the lender must give you your copy along with a cancellation notice form, by email if you agreed to email. For an online loan, Alberta requires the lender to instruct its payment provider the same day both sides sign, so the Interac e-transfer usually lands within minutes with autodeposit on. The e-transfer loans Edmonton page covers evenings and weekends.

How long the whole thing takes

A payday loan usually goes from form to deposit in an hour or two on a weekday; an installment lender reads the credit file first, so its money usually lands the same business day or the one after.

A form sent late on a Friday afternoon usually waits for Monday, so a bill due over a holiday weekend is a Wednesday application.

If no lender makes an offer

A decline usually comes from the income or the account rather than the credit score: no regular employment deposit, a chequing account opened last month, a run of NSF charges, a payday loan still outstanding (Alberta bars a lender from arranging other credit while one is owing), or an amount the deposits cannot carry across three paydays. The bad credit loans Edmonton page lists what lenders treat as a hard stop.

Your rights after you sign

Under Part 12.1 of the Consumer Protection Act and the Payday Loans Regulation, you can cancel a payday loan until the end of the second day after the lender gives you your copy of the agreement (or its next open day if it was closed), by written notice and by returning the money, with no fee and no interest. No fee can be collected before the first instalment is due, and you can prepay all or part at any time at no charge. Rollovers are banned, including a new loan to pay out the old one. If a payment bounces, the lender may charge simple interest of 2.5% a month plus one fee, set by the Director, per dishonoured payment, and may retry the debit once.

If a lender breaks these rules, the complaint goes to the Consumer Investigations Unit at Service Alberta, and the complaints policy explains what to gather first. An installment loan runs under its own agreement and the federal 35% ceiling, so read the prepayment clause. The about page explains how this site earns its fee.

How Loans Edmonton makes money: loansedmonton.ca is a free loan connection service, not a lender. When you apply, we match your application with licensed Canadian lenders and earn a referral fee from the lender if your loan funds. This never changes your rate or costs you anything. We do not make credit decisions and never charge borrowers. The lender sets and discloses the cost before you sign; payday fees are capped by provincial law and installment loans run 18% to 35% APR. All lending is subject to lender approval and provincial rules.
